I am Marva Smith-Carty, and this my 6th year at Bailey. I am a trained teacher of Spanish, English Language and English Literature. I am a fun-loving Jamaican of quiet disposition who has 13 years combined experience as an educator at the high, junior high/middle school levels in Jamaica and the United States of America. I was educated at the Shortwood Teachers' College and The University of the West Indies, Mona in Kingston, Jamaica and La Universidad Metropolitana de Ciencias de Educacion (UMCE) in Chile.
I am a caring, passionate, thorough, creative thinking, no nonsense and enthusiastic educator who enjoys traveling, flowers, sports, swimming, family time, movies, cooking and delectable food! I am married to Nathaniel, and I have a mother to my adorable blessing and son Ethan. I am also a Floral Designer, part time.
I respect and value every child and his or her abilities. I believe it is my responsibility to recognize the talents of my students, unearth the hidden ones and foster growth in the Foreign Language Classroom. I hold my students accountable, and I encourage them to take responsibility for their learning.
I am excited to be here, and I anticipate a great teaching/learning experience!
